Social activist Pramila Nesargi on Tuesday condemned the Mangalore moral policing incident where a youth from the minority community was beaten up for allegedly accompanying a Hindu girl, saying that every citizen has a fundamental right to move around with anyone irrespective of religion, region or sex.
"That is too bad. Every citizen of this country has got a fundamental right to move in the society anywhere from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and it does not prohibit that they must be moving with their own community people and it does not say that they should not move with people of other communities... What has been done in Mangalore is prohibitive," Nesargi told ANI.
According to reports, suspected members of a Hindutva group stripped the minority youth, tied him to a pole and assaulted him publically near Attavar area of Mangalore on Monday evening.
The police has reportedly arrested 14 out of the 30 suspected persons in connection with the case.
