The Tibetan government-in-exile organised a mass prayer in Dharamsala on Tuesday.

The prayer was attended by over 2,000 Tibetans including Tibetan Prime Minister-in-exile Lobsang Sangay along with several monks, nuns and school students.

Tibet's Religion and Culture Minister-in-exile Pema Chonjor said that the prayers were held for those people who have suffered due to the earthquake.

"Because of the disastrous earthquake in Kathmandu and some parts of western Tibet as well as some parts of India, a lot of people are suffering and many have died, so we prayed for them," Chonjor said.

"On April 25 an earthquake devastated Nepal and a lot of people died. We had organised a special prayer ceremony to pray for peace to those who died and courage to the survivors," said Rameshwar, a monk.

The monks and devotees also collected relief material for the quake victims.

Meanwhile, a prayer ceremony was also organised in Haridwar at Pashupatinath temple built after the famous shrine by the same name in Nepal.

Priests and devotees lit earthen lamps and prayed to lord Shiva.

"A special prayer had been organised to pray for those affected by the calamity that has struck Nepal. We will be lighting earthen lamps and our sympathies are with Nepal," said Raghuvan, a priest

The 7.9 magnitude quake struck Nepal at midday on Saturday killing over 5000 people and injuring more than 10, 000.

The powerful earthquake in Nepal also sent tremors across northern India. The tremors had caused buildings to collapse in Kushinagar, leaving a pall of dust over many areas.

India and China were among the first contributors to an international effort to support Nepal's stretched resources.
