President Ram Nath Kovind and first lady Savita Kovind met President of the Republic of Mauritius Dr Ameenah Gurib at Le Reduit (State House) here on Sunday.
President Kovind, who is on a five-day visit to the island nations of Madagascar and Mauritius in the Indian Ocean, will be the chief guest at the celebration commemorating the 50th year of the independence of Mauritius.
The President, who paid a courtesy call to his Mauritian counterpart at Le Reduit, State House of the Republic of Mauritius, left a message, along with her signature, in the visitor's book.
"I bring with me warm greetings and good wishes of the people of India to the friendly people of the Republic of Mauritius. I am thankful for the warm reception accorded or me by Her Excellency Dr Ameenah Gurib Fakim. My discussions with President Dr Ameerah Gurib were fruitful and cordial. I am certain, with our joint efforts, the India-Mauritius partnership will deepen even further in the days ahead. We have walked together in the past, we are joining hands in the present, and we remain committed to strengthening our embrace in the future. Long live Mauritius-India partnership," Kovind wrote.
President Kovind and first lady Savita Kovind also paid respects to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute in Mauritius.
The President is accompanied by Union ministers Ashwini Kumar Choubey, Delhi BJP President and MP Manoj Tiwari, Hukum Dev Narayan Yadav, R. Radhakrishnan, Vijila Sathyanath, Bharat Lal, Ruchi Ghanshyam, Jaideep Majumdar and Manoj Yadav.
