President Pranab Mukherjee has accepted the resignation of Harish Rawat, Minister of Water Resources, from the council of ministers.
The president, on the advice of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, accepted Rawat's resignation from the union council of ministers with immediate effect a Rashtrapati Bhavan press communique said.
"Further, as advised by the Prime Minister, the President has directed that Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad, Minister for Health and Family Welfare shall be given additional charge of the work of the Ministry of Water Resources," the communique said
Rawat on Saturday took oath as Chief Minister of Uttarakhand after he was named for the post by the Congress Party.
Rawat succeeded Vijay Bahuguna, who resigned as chief minister on Friday.
