President Pranab Mukherjee has expressed hope that India and China will ensure an error-proof dialogue mechanism for maintaining peace and tranquility at the borders.
President Mukherjee, who hosted a banquet yesterday in the honour of visiting Chinese President Xi Jinping, said: "The people of India see China as a great civilization, a nation that has achieved unprecedented progress and prosperity in a remarkably short span of time. The spectacular success of the People's Republic of China in the economic development, poverty alleviation, and infrastructure creation and information connectivity is, indeed, inspiring."
"The two countries share a desire for the early resolution of the outstanding issues, including the boundary question. Both are also committed to maintain peace and tranquility at the borders," he added.
President Mukherjee also called for re-doubling the efforts to address the trade deficit, provide better market access to each other's goods and explore the opportunities to create cooperation in the infrastructure sector.
"Today we are at a defining stage in our bilateral relationship. We now need to take it to a level where our programmes and initiatives facilitate the realization of our common goals of progress and prosperity for our two nations. Both our countries are committed to working in that direction," he said.
