President Pranab Mukherjee on Friday is scheduled to address the convocation of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) at Yupia in Arunanchal Pradesh. This will be the convocation of the first batch of engineering graduates at the elite technical institute, which was conferred to the state in 2010.
According to reports, elaborate security arrangements have been made, with the deployment of more than 3,000 personnel of the state police, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the India Reserve Battalion (IRB) in all areas between Naharlagun and Yupia, through which the President's convoy will move.
NIT Arunachal Pradesh is one of 30 establishments in the country to be recognized as an 'institute of national importance', a status that is given to a public higher education institution by an act of Parliament.
