President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Sunday attended the Gurbani Recital on the occasion of the 545th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev at Rashtrapati Bhavan here.
President Mukherjee received a portrait of Guru Nanak Dev and a Saropa (Kirpan) on the occasion.
Guru Nanak was born in Nankana Saheb on this day in 1469. He is the first Sikh guru and the founder of the Sikh religion. He was born on the full moon day in the month of Kartik (October - November) as per the Hindu calendar. Hence, his birthday is celebrated as Guru Nanak Jayanti.
Guru Nanak travelled far and wide teaching people the message of one God who dwells in every one of God's creations.
