President Pranab Mukherjee received the first copy of a book "Munger Through The Ages" written by Late Shri D.P. Yadav at a function at Rashtrapati Bhavan today.
The President received the book from Dr. Karan Singh, Chairman, ICCR who formally released it.
Speaking on this occasion, the President stated that he had a long association with D.P. Yadav. He was first elected to Parliament in 1971. The then Prime Minister, Smt. Indira Gandhi had at that time entrusted him with the charge of Deputy Minister in the Education Ministry. He was an active Parliamentarian and played a key role in the development of the Panchayati Raj Act and the preparation of the Report of the Mandal Commission.
The President recalled that as Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission he attended seminars organized by Shri Yadav for the farmers of Bihar. He said that Yadav was focused on rural development, agro forestry projects and waste land development.
The President said that in the publication, "Munger Through the Ages", Late Shri D.P. Yadav has not only enumerated the rich history and heritage of Munger district, but also described its geographical and demographic features, its administration in the early days of independent India and many aspects of its modern day challenges. On the occasion, the President paid his deep respect and homage to Late Shri D.P. Yadav whom he described as a worthy son of our motherland.
