England captain Alastair Cook has said that he is desperate to stay on as both Test and one-day captain despite his team's disastrous tour of Australia.

Cook raised the possibility of stepping down from the one-day captaincy after last week's seven-wicket loss in Sydney, which gave Australia an unassailable 3-0 lead in the series, following their 5-0 Ashes win.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, although Cook was feeling the pressure of leading a flailing side riding a nine-game losing streak, however, his teammates pleaded with him to stay on as skipper, and Cook said that he is now keen to keep the title. tating that he was in an 'emotional time' when he stated that he would be stepping down, Cook said that England had just lost a game at that time for which he was feeling low, although he added that he is now desperate to carry and considers himself lucky to be the captain of the team.

Cook, who averaged just 24.60 during England's horror Ashes series, further said that his team is desperate to end their losing run, which would extend to 10 should they lose Friday's one-day clash at the WACA Ground.

However, the report mentioned that with England set to embark on a rebuild, his presence as captain would be vital as the team brings in a host of fresh talent.
