A spokesman said that the royal who left his role as an RAF search and rescue pilot in 2013, feels that his new job was a good way to help people in need, and was really excited.

Patrick Peal, the chief of the air ambulance charity, said that they were thrilled the prince's decision, which would also help raise profiles of all such charities across the UK.

The charity operates two helicopters with three pilots in Norwich as well as in Cambridge, and the duke would be based at Cambridge Airport as he flew in Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Suffolk and Bedfordshire.
