Pro-Kannada organizations on Saturday called for a shutdown in Karnataka over the Mekedatu drinking water project issue.
"We are protesting for the Cauvery water. This is our drinking water and they are giving way to other adversities. They are bringing legal matter in sight," said a protester.
The 'bandh' organisers have claimed support of several organisations, including auto drivers, truck operators and owners of petrol bunks, hotels, restaurants and malls, as well as the film industry.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had earlier in his budget speech proposed preparing a detailed project report for construction of the balancing reservoir on upstream of Mekedatu across Cauvery river in Ramanagara district.
