The United States Tennis Association is planning to build a state-of-the-art retractable roof over the Arthur Ashe Stadium, keeping in view years of rained-out US Open finals, which would span five times further than the roof at Wimbledon's Centre Court.

According to The New York Post, the USTA announced last year that there would be 500 million dollars worth of renovations to the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens, and those improvements will now include a roof.

Ticket holders have been disappointed that the last two years of men's singles US Open finals, won by Novak Djokovic and then Andy Murray, were rained out, pushing the matches to Monday, the report said.

The USTA commissioned a series of roof studies over the last 10 years to find a workable design, the report added and the difficulty in building a roof over Arthur Ashe, centers on weight, the report added.

Other planned upgrades at Flushing Meadows will include a new grandstand and a newly remodeled Louis Armstrong Stadium, the report further said.
