Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) has given a new lease of life to amputees in war torn Afghanistan by providing artificial limbs to the land mine victims and setting up a limb fitting facility centre.
ALIMCO, which is based in Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh, distributes aids and appliances to the disabled free of cost and at concessional rates.
Recently, it earned goodwill for the country as it set camps in Afghanistan where experts took measurements of the disabled for their artificial limbs and also taught how to use them.
General Manager of ALIMCO, Lieutenant Colonel P. K. Dubey, said on Tuesday that one of their teams went to Afghanistan with the mission to help the physically disabled.
"One of our teams went to Afghanistan that established an artificial limb fitting centre there. Not just the centre was established, even the local people were also trained in this mission and provided with items. Through this mission we aim to help and take efforts to tolerance of physically disabled not only in our country but also in other countries," added Dubey
He also further added this manufacturing company was established with an aim to help the injured soldiers who lost their limbs during war.

The experts at ALIMCO also taught the techniques to Afghani people so that in future they can maintain their artificial limbs themselves.
ALIMCO is a non-profit organisation that works under the aegis of Government of India (GoI) and supplies artificial limbs components and rehabilitation aids for the benefit of the physically challenged people.
ALIMCO has extended its facilities to other countries like Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Iraq, Cambodia and Uzbekistan as well with the mission to restore dignity to people with disabilities.
