Hashim Amla has returned to the Proteas' T20 squad for the two-match series against Pakistan to be played in the UAE next month, while Dale Steyn has come back to the side after injury in place of Rory Kleinveldt.
According to Sport24, Amla played the last of his 15 T20 International matches at the ICC World Twenty20 in Sri Lanka just over a year ago before taking a break from this format at his own request.
Cricket South Africa's selection convener Andrew Hudson said that Amla is world-class player across all the formats, and his experience and stability at the top of the order are qualities they believe will strengthen the squad in a key area.
Amla takes the place of Farhaan Behardien and in a second major change to the squad that won their series in Sri Lanka last time out, Dale Steyn returns from injury in place of Rory Kleinveldt, the report said.
Chris Morris also drops out as the squad is reduced from 16 to 15 players, the report added.
Hudson said that it was great to have Steyn back and it means that they now have all their senior players available again.
