Protests demanding action on climate change attract thousands globally

Street protests demanding immediate action on climate change ahead of the United Nations climate summit have attracted thousands of people in more than 2,000 places across the world.

Around 3,10,000 people joined the People's Climate March in Manhattan, New York whereby the UN General Secretary Ban Ki-moon was also present, said the organizers.

They also said that the event surpassed the previous largest protest on climate change.

The march is focusing on regulations on carbon emissions, reported the BBC.

Huge demonstrations earlier took place in Europe and Australia.

UN General Secretary said that the planet needs to be saved for our subsequent generations to live on.

Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio who was appointed as the UN representative for climate change also attended the protest.
