Pugilist L Sarita Devi who won an Asian Games bronze medal after a controversial semifinal loss, said she is disappointed with the turn of events with the AIBA suspending her and her coaches indefinitely for her conduct.
"I felt really bad, I forgot whatever happened in Incheon had ended and concentrated on my training, was shocked to hear about suspension a month later," she told ANI here.
Thanking the IOA and the Sports Ministry for coming forward to find ways for revoking her suspension, she said, "I felt good because I want to play again and I have been playing for the last 14 years in Indian boxing. It was my aim and I have got many medals and I whatever the ministry and the Indian Olympic Association is doing for me and it will help me to play once again for the country."
Expressing her hope with AIBA once again revoking her suspension she added, "I am still preparing for World Championship as I'm hopeful of getting a chance and hope that my suspension will get removed."
The AIBA suspended Sarita Devi and her coaches indefinitely because of her protest at the 2014 Asian Games. An emotional Sarita Devi had refused to accept the bronze medal at the podium during the award ceremony in protest at a controversial verdict handed out against her.
Media reports indicate that a meeting will be held by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and the Sports Ministry on Monday to discuss ways in order to get the suspension of Sarita Devi revoked.
