Rio Olympic silver medalist PV Sindhu on Wednesday defeated World number 284 Anura Prabhudesai to enter the second round of the 2017 Syed Modi International here in Lucknow.
Sindhu, who is the top seed and the biggest star in the women's singles draw after the pull-out by the two-time champion Saina Nehwal, defeated Prabhudesai 21-9, 21-11 in the first round contest.
This was Sindhu's first official match of the new season although she did play some of the top shuttlers during the Chennai Smashers' title-winning campaign at the Premier Badminton League Season 2.
