Disaster management department principal secretary Vyasji on Sunday confirmed that 35 people have lost their lives and 86 injured in Bihar after a massive earthquake hit India's northern belt yesterday.
"Over 35 deaths have been confirmed till now and around 86 people have been injured. NDRF and STRF teams are operational in over nine districts in Bihar. The situation is under control. The damage is not substantial and widespread so far, we're still assessing the amount of damage," said Vyasji.
The Indian Government had earlier sent four aircrafts with NDRF teams to oversee rescue and relief operations and also set up a 24-hour control room for queries regarding the tragedy.
The impact of the earthquake was felt in almost all northern states in India particularly in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Sikkim and West Bengal.
