The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday said Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi is still learning politics, adding that his recent diatribes against the government are an attempt to ensure that he remains relevant.

"He presents himself as student of politics, he must be taking lessons. So, he feels everyone is taking lessons from each other," said BJP spokesperson Nalin Kohli.

Kohli further said that no development has taken place in Amethi, the parliamentary constituency of Rahul Gandhi, in the last ten years.

"But the larger issue is that once we see some substance from Mr. Rahul Gandhi, when we see some consistency in the nation, serving his own people of Amethi then perhaps we may take value to what he (Rahul) has to offer," said Kohli.

"I think he is only pandering to the media and coming up with these slogans to keep himself relevant," he added.

Speaking at an NSUI convention in the national capital earlier, Gandhi said that his party's greatest strength is to solve the most 'complex problems' and criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for failing to deliver on his promises during his first year in office.

"The Congress believes in discipline, but I have really understood the reality over the past 10 years. Earlier, I would wonder why there was no order, but now, I understand why. It is in the DNA of the Congress Party to listen to everyone. Others call it disorder, but this is the Congress Party's strength: it is in our DNA to solve the most complex of issues," Gandhi said.
