Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre and questioned its policy on China and Pakistan .

"For the first time in the history of India, on one hand when the Prime Minister was enjoying the swing ride with Chinese President on the other hand the Chinese Army was intruding into our land in Ladakh. He did not ask a single question at that time that how could their army enter our soil," Gandhi said at an election rally here.

The Gandhi scion also targeted the Centre over the repeated cross-border attacks by Pakistan along the International Border and the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir.

"Pakistan has been attacking us in the last few days and they are killing our people. But during the time of elections, he had said that nothing will happen when I become the Prime Minister. It is easy to say but it becomes different when it comes to implementation."

The Congress vice-president was also critical of the BJP leaders for questioning the 60 years rule of his party, saying they were putting question mark on the efforts put in by leaders like Mahatma Gandhi and Baba Saheb Ambedkar with their assertions that a single individual can take the nation forward.

"Opposition says nothing has been done in the last 60 years, they think that only an individual can take the nation forward. When the opposition says nothing was done in 60 years they are putting a question mark on Mahatma Gandhi, Baba Saheb Ambedkar and such leaders," he said.

"They are putting a question mark on you, because not one person, but you together have taken the nation forward in last 60 years," he added.

Trashing charges that Maharashtra was lagging from other states, Gandhi further said, "Today Maharashtra is much ahead from all other states. However, the BJP leaders come here and say that they want to take it ahead of Gujarat, but Maharashtra is already leading."

He also took potshots at the BJP-led NDA government on changing laws implemented by the previous UPA regime.

"Whatever we had done for the poor, now after coming to power the BJP is changing such laws," he added.

Reminding about the drought relief operation carried out by his party, the Congress vice-president said, "Who helped you when Maharashtra was facing the drought? Congress extended all assistance and carried out the biggest drought relief operation."

In a bid to reach out to the youth and middle-class ahead of the polls, he added, "In Maharashtra we are introducing textiles and industrial policies, 15 lakh youth will get employment."

The Congress is contesting the Maharashtra Assembly polls alone this time after it broke its alliance with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) over seat sharing issue.

Maharashtra will go to polls on October 15 along with Haryana while the counting in both states will be held on October 19.
