Rahul takes on Modi Govt over chief ministers' woes

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday targetted the NDA Government at the Centre, saying the latter may be providing grants to chief ministers with one hand, but is taking it back with the other.

"All chief ministers universally raised the point that although the Modi Government says that they are giving grants to the chief ministers, as a matter of fact, while they give money from one hand, they take it back with the other," Rahul said after a meeting with chief ministers of Congress ruled states.

"There is a huge difference between us and the BJP. We give our chief ministers freedom. We learn from them. We don't tell them what to do from Delhi," he added.

The Congress vice-president, who is expected to take charge of his party this year, also took a dig at the Prime Minister's 'Make in India' initiative.

"'Make in India' shows a powerful lion, but you can't hear him roar," said Rahul.

He had earlier called for states ruled by the Congress party to showcase themselves as the best-run regions of the country, adding that each chief minister belonging to the political organisation must

Today's meeting, which was aimed at forming a political strategy to take on the NDA Government for its attitude towards the Congress-ruled and other non-BJP ruled states, was the first such meeting called by the Congress president after the party's drubbing in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
