Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Friday joined a striking sanitation workers' dharna outside the East Delhi Municipal Corporation headquarters and slammed both the Delhi Government and the Centre for not solving their problems.
Rahul, who spoke to the protesting workers about the delay in payment of their salaries and other issues, was met with chants of 'Hamara PM kaisa ho, Rahul Gandhi jaisa ho' and 'Abhi to ye angdai hai, aage aur ladai hai'.
"Delhi Government says it is the responsibility of Government of India, and Government of India says it is Delhi Government's problem! Both are making excuses," said Rahul.
"The women sitting with me said that tall promises were made to them, and yet, they are stuck where they were. The Central Government and the Delhi Government are both shunning their responsibilities, I will take up your responsibility," he added.
"If you ask the government you won't get anything. But a show of strength will get the work done in five minutes. This dharna is the right way to go," the Congress vice-president further added.
The sanitation workers have been on strike over the non-payment of their salaries.
