The Congress party today staged a vehement protest outside the residence of Union Railway Minister Sadananda Gowda, after he presented the maiden Railway Budget of the Modi government.

The workers 'gheraoed' his car and Congress leader Mukesh Sharma even removed Rail Minister Sadananda Gowda's name plate and stepped on it.

Congress party has come out heavily against the Railway Budget with senior leader Manish Tewari saying, "The rail budget has been very high on rhetoric and low on delivery. It seemed that it was not a rail budget rather the privatization of rail."

"Overall, this rail budget was a failure and it's a budget to make common man cry. It again underscores the fact that BJP has been trying to mislead people," he added.

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi too criticised the budget by saying that the budget was hopeless and left out the Congress ruled states. He also said that the budget was not pro-poor.

Earlier today, Union Railway Minister Sadananda Gowda presented the Railway Budget for fiscal year 2014-15 in the Lok Sabha.
