The first day of the New Zealand A's four-day match with Sri Lanka A in Kandy, central Sri Lanka was affected by rain although New Zealand A player Mark Gillespie continued to prove the selectors' correct for choosing him for his team's next Test match with his 2-40 in the game.
According to Stuff.co.nz, the hosts, who batted first in the game, reached 116-3 when stumps were pulled as only 40 overs of play was possible in the match.
The report mentioned that Gillespie took the wickets of Sri Lankan international Kusal Perera, Dinesh Chandimal, while his teammate Corey Anderson was the other wicket taker for New Zealand.
The report further said that Gillespie, fellow New Zealand A opening bowler Doug Bracewell, and Anderson are all in the Test squad and will hope to join Neil Wagner and Trent Boult in the Test side with Tim Southee injured and Chris Martin retired.
New Zealand's next Test is against Bangladesh starting on October 9 in Chittagong and Gillespie is part of the 15-man squad.
