The West Indies have got a great escape in the first Test against New Zealand with the help of some rain showers as the hosts just needed 33 more runs to win after being set a target of 112 in the fourth innings, and the match being forced to end in a draw.

Earlier, the visitors were bowled out for 507 runs after an incredible innings from Darren Bravo (218) came to an end and after Darren Sammy was also shown the door after an impressive knock of 80 runs.

The West Indies were showing some spirit after Shane Shillingford took four early wickets and gave New Zealand a scare in their small chase but later Ross Taylor and Corey Anderson looked set to marshal the troops to a victory.

Taylor was also declared the Man of the Match for his knocks off 217 and an unbeaten 16 in the second innings.

The second Test will be played in Wellington from December 11.
