Former union minister and Congress leader Rajeev Shukla on Wednesday maintained that the International Cricket Council (ICC) should take strong steps against England fast bowler James Anderson for his alleged misbehavior against spinner Ravindra Jadeja, and set an example before others.

"The behavior of Andersen was not appropriate; The ICC should take strong step which will set an example before others. The team management has lodged a complaint, now it is upto the ICC to decide what level of offence he has committed and there are provisions to deal with such issues," Shukla told ANI.

England fast bowler James Anderson has been charged under Level 3 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel by India team manager Sunil Dev following an alleged incident that took place on the second day of the first cricket Test at Trent Bridge.

Anderson has been charged for allegedly abusing and pushing Ravindra Jadeja immediately after they left the field for lunch on Thursday. It is alleged that this was a continuation of a verbal altercation between Anderson and Jadeja as they were walking from the field.

All Level 3 breaches carry a penalty of between four and eight Suspension Points. Two suspension points equates to a ban of one Test, or two ODIs, depending on which type of match is scheduled next for the suspended player.
