Shukla told ANI, "It is complete injustice, likely to be meted out by the government, to not give the status of the Leader of Opposition to the leader of the Congress party. A lot of constitutional appointments are to be made by government and it wants to do suo moto appointments. They don't want to consult the opposition parties as required by Supreme Court verdict."

"Even after the amendment in law in 1977, whoever has got the highest strength, that party would get status of Leader of Opposition. By that law itself, government should accord it to the leader of the Congress party."
The Congress and its allies have demanded to get one of their leaders designated as the Leader of the Opposition.
However, it is expected that the Speaker's final decision will be in accordance with the rule book. She is likely to give her ruling before the commencement of the Budget session.
