Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday asked the Chief Ministers of Karnataka and Haryana to ensure the safety of all citizens, especially those hailing from the North-East. He also requested the two leaders to ensure that law and order is maintained in their states.

"In the last couple of days, some unpleasant incidents of attacks by the miscreants on the citizens from the North East India have been reported in Bangalore and Gurgaon and it is a matter of concern," Singh said, adding that the government is committed to provide security to all the citizens living in the country.

Rajnath Singh's statements came in the backdrop of cases of assault against people of the North-East in Bangalore on Wednesday and in Gurgaon on Thursday. On Thursday night, a Mizo girl was also found dead in the national capital.

According to reports, the miscreants have been arrested in both the Bangalore and Gurgaon cases. Bangalore and Haryana police officials have also confirmed that a number of security measures for ensuring the security of the people have been taken, including those hailing from the North East. The Ministry of Home Affairs has also sent advisories to the State Governments and Union Territories in this regard.
