Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday attributed his contribution to national politics to the role played by women in his family.
"As UN general secretary Ban Ki-moon has said, when we unleash the power of women, we can secure the future for all. We must all know what power women have. Women have a great hand in the development of man's personality. I am standing here as the Home Minister because of the role that my mother, my wife, my daughter and my sister have played in my life," Singh said while inaugurating a bike rally for women in the national capital on the occasion of International Women's Day.
"I was jailed when Emergency was imposed on this country, and I was only 24 years old but my mother gave me the strength to fight. My wife taught at a college in Daltonganj district of Jharkhand, so that we could pay rent. Thus, I feel that I could not be here without their contribution," he added.
March 8 is celebrated the world over as International Women's Day.
