Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh arrived in the Purnia district of Bihar on Friday to take stock of the damage caused by a storm sweeping the state.
Singh was accompanied by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
The Home Minister is expected to undertake an aerial survey of the storm-hit areas. He will also meet people affected by the storm in Purnia.
At least 42 people died after deadly storms struck the Patna, Purnia and Madhepura districts of Bihar.
The state government announced an ex-gratia of Rs four lakh for the victims' families.
