Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh conducted an aerial survey of flood-affected areas of Assam and Meghalaya and reviewed rescue and relief operations recently.
He was accompanied by senior Union Home Ministry officials.
According to the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), over 80 people have been killed due to heavy floods and inundation in Assam and Meghalaya.
The worst-affected areas here are the districts of Goalpara, Kamrup, Boko along with some adjoining areas whereas in Meghalaya, the areas of Tura and seven districts of Garo Hills area were hit the most by the tragedy.
Currently, 12 teams of NDRF have been deployed for the floods in Assam and Meghalaya, each comprising 50 members.
Personnel of the Indian Army and State Disaster Response Force are also involved in the rescue and relief operations.

The authorities have opened some 200 relief camps and shelter homes.
Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju had earlier made an aerial survey of flood-hit Assam and then the Garo Hills region of Meghalaya.
