Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh on Wednesday paid homage to the 15 security personnel who were martyred in a Maoist attack while they undertaking a mine clearing operation in Chhatisgarh.
Earlier, Singh along with Shinde and Chhattisgarh Home Minister Ramsewak Paikra, left for Jagdalpur city to pay homage.
Singh had refused to tender his resignation in the wake of attack and urged the Congress party not to politicise the issue.
On Tuesday, Maoist rebels ambushed and killed 16 people including one civilian involved in a mine clearing operation. Police said this was a demonstration of strength by the insurgents ahead of the general election.
The victims were clearing mines laid by rebels on a road through a densely forested area when the rebels attacked from all sides, according to a senior home ministry official.
