Rani Mukerji is all set to return to the silver screen with 'Mardaani 2', a sequel to her 2014 film.
The actor stated that her role in 'Mardaani' will always be close to heart, while adding that she cannot wait to start shooting for the sequel.
Yash Raj Films took to their official Twitter handle and confirmed the news, writing, "Rani Mukerji had wowed us all with her brilliantly feisty performance in the super-hit film Mardaani. She played the role of a daredevil senior inspector, Shivani Shivaji Roy who takes on the kingpin of the child trafficking racket. It is now official that Yash Raj Films is making the sequel to this much-loved movie and starting the Mardaani Franchise."
Talking about her role, Rani said, "Mardaani is and will always be extremely close to my heart. Right since its release, everyone has asked me time and again when I would be doing Mardaani 2 and I'm sure this announcement will come as a pleasant surprise to them all. Gopi has written an extraordinary script that we all love and I can't wait to start shooting this film soon,"
The Pradeep Sarkar directorial was a cop drama that revolved around child trafficking.
The upcoming sequel will be directed by the writer of the first film, Gopi Puthran, and is set to go on floors in 2019. The movie will release in the second half of the year.
