All India Progressive Women Association (AIPWA) secretary Kavita Krishnan criticized Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Friday for his choice of words during his statement on rape yesterday. She had also said that rape is an attack on women rights.

Krishnan said, "The issue is the way he said it. First he said, 'a small incident of rape', which means he feels that rape is a small incident, then he said, 'the way the incident was advertised', so he feels that media was reporting rape as an advertisement, and then he further mentions loss to the tourism industry."

She added, "Just look at the choice of words. We would like tell the Finance Minister that when women are raped, it is an attack on their rights.

She said that Arun Jaitley is talking about the loss to tourism but unable to see the loss of woman's life. "The Finance Minister is encouraging rape by calling it a small incident", she finally said.

Arun Jaitley however has said that it is regrettable that his words have been misconstrued.
