Defending Champions Real Madrid played out a goalless draw against Spanish rivals Atletico Madrid in the Champions League quarterfinal first-leg on Tuesday night.

Atletico goalkeeper Jan Oblak produced a stellar performance as he made two crucial saves to defend Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez's stunning strikes.

Reflecting on Atletico's performance, team manager Diego Simeone said that they have a very intelligent group of players who knew how to react to the way things went in the first half, the BBC reported.

Simeone added that Real are playing the second leg in front of their own fans and they would make a huge effort and therefore his side would have to try and keep their heads.

Meanwhile, Real coach Carlo Ancelotti said that the first half was fantastic, but insisted that the second half was different as Atletico were pressuring more and they found it harder to control possession.

The two sides will square off again in the quarterfinal second-leg at the Bernabeu on 22 April.
