Record-breaking Australian batsman Aaron Finch has said that he is happy that his impressive innings during Australia's 39-run win in the first Twenty20 against England helped give a boost to his side to end their 200-day spell without an international win.
According to Sport24, Finch's 156, the highest score in a Twenty20 international, was the cornerstone of Australia's victory in the first T20 at Southampton on Thursday.
Stating that he was glad that he helped give the team a 'boost', the Victorian opener, who did not feature in the preceding 3-0 Ashes Test series loss to England, said that not a lot of baggage has been carried over from the Ashes as a lot of new players have come in the squad.
Expressing his satisfaction over his innings, Finch further said that it was one of those days when things hit the middle of the bat and thus went his way, adding that he got maximum value by just hitting the gap early due to a 'beautiful' wicket and 'lightning' outfield.
Finch however, said that he believed that the wicket was not advantageous to bowlers, and England fast-medium bowler and T20 captain Stuart Broad agreed with the fact, quipping that the bowlers have their passport in their pocket ready for Durham.
Praising Finch, Broad said that his score was a 'special striking' as he hit 14 sixes in an innings, adding that England bowlers tried everything in their arsenal to get Finch out although they failed miserably.
However, Broad also said that such things happen in T20 cricket, adding that Finch made it his day in quite a spectacular fashion.
