Manchester United skipper Wayne Rooney, who is recovering from his knee injury, is confident of regaining full fitness in time to help his side making a top-four Premier League finish as well as to lead England's attack in Euro 2016 campaign.

"I am hoping if I am back when I am expected to be back, depending on the two cups we are still in, then there could be 10 games left for United plus the England friendly games so I don't think that would be a worry," the 30-year-old was quoted as saying by goal.com.

The star striker was sidelined for the past eight matches after sustaining injury during his side's 1-2 defeat at the hands of Sunderland in February.

Louis van Gaal's side had suffered since then, losing matches against Liverpool, West Brom and Danish side Midtjylland.

Rooney confirmed that he would miss the England games, but added that he would not take too much time to make a comeback on the pitch.

"If I try and push and be involved now it could cause more damage. So we are being cautious. After the international break is a more realistic target," he added.

This was not the first time that Rooney has faced injury problems ahead of major international tournaments. His most notable injuries came ahead of the 2006 and 2010 World Cups and before 2004 European Championships.
