A humanitarian aid of 100,000 U.S. dollars will be offered by the Red Cross Society of China to the Philippines following the havoc caused by Typhoon Haima, a spokesperson said Monday.

The announcement was made at a regular news briefing by the Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang, adding that the Chinese government will also provide the Philippines with additional assistance.

The state-owned Xinhua news agency quoted Lu as saying, "China believes, with the leadership of the Philippine government, those affected people will overcome the disaster and come back to normal lives as early as possible."

The Philippine National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council stated that the death toll has risen to 16 on Saturday in the Philippines from super Typhoon Haima.

A total of 35,486 families or 149,659 persons have been displaced and most of them are staying at one of the country's 643 evacuation centers, the statement added.
