The Congress Party on Friday condemned the controversial statements by Minister of State for Food Processing Industries Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, terming the remarks 'painful and shameful'.
"The remarks of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its leaders are both painful and shameful. There is a pattern of what is happening in Delhi and all other election-going states. Why does the BJP have tainted minister, be it Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti who passes hate remarks?" Congress leader Randeep Surjewala told ANI.
"We condemn these remarks and we demand from the Prime Minister and BJP that she be immediately removed from her position in the cabinet and a case under Section 153 IPC for making hate speeches should be registered against her," he added.
Surjewala was reacting to Jyoti's remarks during a rally in the national capital on Monday, which led to uproar in both Houses of the Parliament, with the opposition calling for her resignation from the Union Cabinet. Jyoti has since apologised for her statements.
