Minister of State, Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju on Friday said that reports of the government imposing Hindi language in all states is wrong and unwarranted and added that all regional languages and local dialects are equal for the government.

"Reports of the government of India imposing Hindi Language on all states is wrong and unwarranted as no such directives have been issued to any state," said Rijiju.

"All regional languages and local dialects are equal for us, we believe in promotion of all languages," he added.

Yesterday, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) chief M Karunanidhi and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, condemned government's decision to give priority to Hindi on official social media interactions.

He said that it's an attempt to treat non-Hindi speakers as second class citizens.

Minister of State, Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, however, said that the home ministry never issued any directive to make Hindi a compulsory language in departments and added that this was being made into an unnecessary controversy.
