Fed up with the apathy of officials, residents of Hander Village in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi District have donated 30 acres of land and jewellery for the construction of a 14-kilometer-long road in the Narloo area.

"We want the road constructed. What will we do with our lands when we do not even have a road in the village? We hardly have the facilities of schools, hospitals as we do not a have a road here,"said a resident of Hander village,Savitri Devi.

The residents claim that they have kept requesting different officers and leaders to construct the road, but to no avail.

Fed up with non-challant attitude, villagers took up the issue and donated cash, jewellery, land and with the help of a local contractor, they managed things.

The road is being constructed at a cost of Rs.2 crore.

The village landlord, K.S. Manhas, informed that over 50 women gave their jewellery to build the road, which is near completion and will connect the village to schools, government offices and banks.

In wake of the decline in violence in India's Kashmir, one gets to see various development activities taking place in every sector.
