The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday condemned the diktat issued by teachers in a government school of Doda district to students not to sing the national anthem during the morning assembly, and said that it is every Indian's Constitutional duty to respect the national anthem.
Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Jitendra Singh said that this issue is a matter of concern and it is not expected of a teacher who is supposed to teach students to respect the national anthem and the nation.
"It is a matter of concern and I believe that our respect towards the national anthem or any symbol of the nation not only comes under our constitutional duty but it is also a part of our commitment towards our nation' so it should happen naturally. It is also a matter of concern if any teacher objects to this because it is expected of a teacher to inculcate these kinds of teachings in the students so that they respect the nation," Jitendra Singh told ANI here.
The students had staged a protest earlier this week to vent their ire over the diktat issued by the teachers and demanded their suspension.
