As India continues to put up a dismal show in the ongoing Rio Olympics, archer Atanu Das on Tuesday appeared to be the only silver lining for the country as he progressed through to the round of 16 of the Men's individual event after seeing off Cuban international Adrian Andres Puentes Perez.
After winning the first two sets, the 32-year-old from West Bengal lost the following two rounds before he bounced back strongly to win the decider set.
Das edged past his Cuban opponent 28-26, 29-26, 26-27, 27-28, 29-28 in a thrilling five-set encounter at the Sambodromo.
Das will now lock horns with South Korea's Seungyun Lee in the 1/8 Eliminators on Friday.
Earlier today, the Indian archer thrashed Nepal's Muktan Jitbahadur 6-0 to enter the round-of-32 of the Men's individual archery event.
India, which has sent its largest-ever contingent of 119 athletes in Rio Olympics, is yet to open their medal account in the ongoing Summer Games.
