Rio Olympics: Rower Dattu Bhokanal to compete in singles sculls quarters today

Indian rower Dattu Bhokanal, who was among the few bright spots on the opening day of the competition, will compete in the quarterfinals of the men's single sculls event here at the Rio Olympics on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old armyman, hailing from Maharashtra, had secured his spot for the quarterfinals after finishing third in the qualifying round with a timing of 7:21.67 at Lagao stadium on Saturday.

On the other hand, the Indian men's hockey team will look to regain their winning ways when they will contest against Argentina in their third Pool B match.

Yesterday, the PR Sreejesh-led side suffered a 1-2 defeat at the hands of reigning champions Germany after conceding a goal barely three seconds before the final whistle.

India won their opening game of Pool B after defeating Ireland 3-2 on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Vikas Krishan Yadav will kick off India's boxing campaign when he takes on American challenger Charles Conwell in his opening bout today.

Shooter Heena Sidhu, who failed to qualify for the finals of the 10m Air Pistol event on Sunday, will be competing in the 25m pistol event while archer Atanu Das will look to continue his form in the elimination round of the individual event.

India, who have sent their largest-ever contingent of 119 athletes in the Rio Olympics, are yet to open their medal account in the ongoing Summer Games.
