To commemorate the 72nd Infantry Day on Saturday, Lieutenant General Yenduru Venkata Krishna Mohan of Rising Star Corps laid a wreath at Shradhatara, the War Memorial at Yol.

Infantry Day is observed as a remembrance of the first military event of independent India, when the Indian Army repelled the first attack on the Indian soil on October 27, 1947, in the Kashmir Valley.

The victory was accomplished by the personnel of the First Battalion of The Sikh Regiment.

The day is commemorated with traditional gaiety and military elan.

Earlier in the day, Army Chief General Bipin Rawat paid tribute at Amar Jawan Jyoti in Delhi as a mark of respect to the deceased servicemen on the occasion.
