A truck rammed into a pickup vehicle coming from the opposite direction on Tuesday, killing nine people and injuring another 11 here.
The truck, which was coming from Devari village in Hardoi district, was carrying goats to be sold for the forthcoming festival of Eid, and smashed into a pickup vehicle this morning on the outskirts of Lucknow. After the collision, the front tyre burst.
Eight passengers were killed on the spot, and one died while being taken being to a local hospital.
Inspector of the police station in Malihabad region, J.P. Singh, said that the authorities were trying to get in touch with the families of victims.
"The front tyre of the truck had burst and it lost the control and overturned. Eight persons died on the spot, while one died after being brought to the hospital, so total of nine persons have been killed. 11 people are injured and they have been sent to the trauma centre. The dead bodies have been sent for post-mortem. The traffic has been regulated," Singh said.
According to reports, some of the injured are remain in critical condition, after being transferred to the trauma centre from the primary health centre here.
