Congress party president Rahul Gandhi's brother-in-law Robert Vadra on Tuesday condemned the incident that happened at Delhi's five-star hotel, where the son of a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader was filmed waving a gun, threatening a man and a woman.
In a telephonic interview with ANI, Vadra said, "I was there on Saturday with my daughter and mother in the same hotel. I was wondering when I saw the video, what lawless city we are living in? How can our families, our daughters feel safe in such an environment? There should be no acceptance of such incidents, we need to stand up and speak up against such incidents. This could have been another case like the Jessica Lal murder."
In 1999, son of a former Congress party minister shot Jessica Lal dead after she refused to serve him a drink at a Delhi restaurant she worked at.
In a somewhat similar incident, a complaint has been registered under Arms Act against Ashish Pandey, the son of former Member of Parliament from the BSP, Rakesh Pandey. Police say it was Ashish who flashed a gun during a brawl at the foyer of a south Delhi hotel. The ruckus was captured on a mobile phone camera.
Vadra added that, in the incident that happened on Saturday, police should have been called immediately and the hotel should have provided the video of the incident to the authorities at the earliest.
"They are doing it now after there is an outrage. Law and order system should be such that there is zero tolerance for such acts," Vadra said.
Vadra also expressed concerns in a Facebook post, saying, "I really fear for the safety of our children and the people of our city, the capital of the country. What is the law n order prevailing n who is accountable?! Has the Chief Minister seen what is existing n will they make an example of this insane behaviour with guns and profanity?! There were a bunch of children having dinner at the hotel n other friends, earlier....
