No batsman has ever registered two double-tons in one-day internationals (ODIs), but Indian opener Rohit Sharma now has three and this could not make his mother prouder.

The crowd at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium of Mohali witnessed a historical moment from an outrageous Rohit in the series-savior match against Sri Lanka, where he reached the milestone of 208 runs.

Talking to ANI, Rohit's mother Purnima Sharma said, "We are extremely happy and proud that he had hit a double ton."

"It is his marriage anniversary today, so our happiness has doubled," she added.

From quite some time Rohit has been on the receiving side of critics for his poor form, but the double-ton innings from the 30-year-old proved everyone that he can still haunt the bowlers.

It was a moment to watch when Rohit crossed the 200-mark and kissed his ring finger to dedicate his brilliant innings to wife, who was supporting and praying for the right-handed batsman.

It was a perfect gift anniversary gift.

Rohit slammed 13 fours and 12 sixes enroute 208 off 153 balls and this came as a surprise for his mother.

She said, "We were so surprised that first he had hit a hundred then he reached the 150 score and then so quickly he had reached the 200 mark while slamming fours and sixes.

"I am very proud as a mother than my son is the captain of the Indian team and is playing good innings for the team," she added.

Rohit created multiple records while batting against the Islanders here.

The rampaging batsman has become the first captain to score a double hundred.

He has equalled former India opener Virender Sehwag record of 14 hundreds as opener in the 50-overs format.

He now has master blaster Sachin Tendulkar and former India skipper Sourav Ganguly ahead of him.
