England national football team manager Roy Hodgson has revealed that Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has been fit for the last few days and confirmed that he will pick England's key striker.

According to the Daily Star, Rooney, said to have had first a hamstring problem, then a shoulder injury, put in an energetic and enthusiastic training session with England and also looks certain to start in the friendly against Scotland at Wembley on Wednesday.

Casting doubts over United boss David Moyes overlooking Rooney for the Community Shield against Wigan on Sunday, Hodgson insisted his star striker had been 'physically fit' for several days, adding that there is no doubt in his mind that Rooney is suffering from any physical injury.

According to Hodgson, even if Rooney does not play at United, he would not be the first player who will be available and possibly in contention for an England place, adding that during his stint as a national manager, he has faced many situations where players not always playing in their team are selected due to their qualities, talent and skills.

Impressed by Rooney's efforts in training, Hodgson also said that the player's body language suggested his enthusiasm, although he added that Rooney would not be match-fit until he plays matches and have a chance to take part in every training session.
