England captain Wayne Rooney has insisted that he will not retire before playing for the national team in the 2018 World Cup.

The 29-year-old Manchester United striker said that 2018 World Cup was a target for him, adding that he would decide on his retirement considering his fitness after the pinnacle tournament, the Guardian reported.

He said that his retirement also depends on the call by his manager, adding that he didn't want to play just to set records but to go beyond it as he believes that he still has plenty of game left in him.

However, he admitted that he is not yet ready to call curtains on his England international career.

Rooney, who recently equaled Sir Bobby Charlton's all-time record of 49 goals for England, require just one more goal to set a new milestone.
